Job Description

SUMMARY

As a Wintel Administrator, provide all Westlake Center Corporate entities and Fabricated Product Group (FPG) plants with Wintel Administrative & support services, including hardware installation, software installation, and specifications for requisitioning computer hardware and software.  Provide technical support to corporate Wintel (Windows/Intel) Technologies and to the IT Coordinators supporting the FPG plants. Assist with implementation of system infrastructure for the whole enterprise computer system.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operating System Administration

  • Work with senior team members to install latest Microsoft Windows operating system software; retrieves fixes from vendor’s electronic repository and applies these to installed operating system.
  • Assist senior team members to upgrade to new releases for all Wintel Support software. Work within the schedule and notify end-users of planned downtime.
  • Catalog and store copies of all server software and related correspondence received from the hardware vendor for future retrieval and use.
  • Maintain current documentation of the all employed Wintel Technologies, corporate E-mail system, Citrix/WTS technologies, Backup/Restore Technologies, Windows Infrastructure & Domain services (Active Directory, WINS, DNS, DHCP)
  • At the direction of senior team members, maintain security measures provided by the operating system software.
  • At the direction of senior team members, maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) to streamline processes, ease of maintenance and continuity.
  • Work with senior team members to, handle Sarbanes-Oxley Compliance, auditing, evidence capture and storage.
  • With direction from senior team members, manage daily backups and archives of all Windows servers.  Coordinate with service companies for maintaining off-site storage and weekly pickup/return of backup tapes.
  • Assist senior team members allocate file space on network server(s) for user application software, dynamically expanding this space as usage warrants.
  • Install/Monitor anti-virus software for all servers in Westlake Center to minimize disruptions caused by viruses.

Technical Support

  • Work with senior team members to determine requirements and specifications for Wintel hardware, including desktop standards and requirements.
  • At the direction of senior team members, assess latest server technology, backup devices, etc. and recommends choices as technology evolves.
  • Support installed systems by troubleshooting and correcting failures that occur.

Hardware Installation and Maintenance

  • Maintain current knowledge on servers and associated peripheral equipment (printers, CD readers, memory, monitors, modems, tape backup, etc.).
  • Assist senior team members, install servers and associated hardware; certifies prior to release to users.

Software Installation and Maintenance

  • Maintain knowledge on a current basis for the operating system software and principal (e.g., MS Office) application systems software installed on the LAN.
  • Monitor the use of all software on the LAN servers and user workstations.

Business Application Support

  • Assist senior team members, evaluate packaged software for end users based on user requirement and vendor specifications.
  • Assist senior team members determine configuration requirements, e.g., Server, PC, Bandwidth, etc.
  • At the direction of senior team members setup evaluation copy of software for testing by users and IT.
  • Load software on servers and PC’s, as applicable, for testing and eventual production processing.
  • Set up backup schedules and backup processing.
  • Perform data file restores.
  • Provide second and third level support - troubleshooting user problems with applications, e.g., slow processing, apparent malfunctions, explanation of vendor technical documents.
  • Interface with application vendors for determining application keys/passwords, establishing technical support contacts, resolution of problems, applying fixes, and implementing new versions.

        

Special Projects

  • Serve as a resource to introducing new technology and software applications to the Westlake Group, such as
  • Work with senior team members to install new operating systems for Windows servers.
  • Work with senior team members to replace software for major applications, e.g., E-Mail.
  • Others, as assigned, e.g., intrusion detection and anti-virus.

Continuing Training and Education

  • Maintain current technical knowledge required to perform productively, e.g., reads trade journals and attends trade shows, seminars, and conferences.
  • Attends a minimum of five days annually of formal vendor-provided training related to the job functions defined above.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 2 years’ experience managing Xenapp 6.x and higher to include installing Xenapp, publishing applications, managing policies, printing, etc..
  • Working understanding of Citrix connectivity through Netscalers Gateways, DMZ, and Storefront.
  • Good troubleshooting skills in regards to group policy, drive mappings, home drives, and profiles
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong technical documentation skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to conduct research into Citrix operational issues, standards and products as required.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Able to coordinate resolution of issues when alerted by on-call emergency phone during assigned rotation period
  • Able to work weekend and evening hours for maintenance and emergency work

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 5 years equivalent work experience.
  • Certifications in Microsoft Windows Enterprise Products including Exchange and Windows 2003 Enterprise, Web Services preferred, not required. May be substituted with experience.
  • Strong understanding of IT operations, theories, principles, and practices.
  • Working technical experience with designing, building, installing, configuring and supporting Windows servers.
  • Hands-on performance tuning and troubleshooting experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office.  Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.  Travel up to 25% including air travel or auto travel.
