SUMMARY

Provide overall direction and leadership to the Natrium Project Engineering Group.  The position will also be responsible for coordinating efforts to support strategic Business projects, benchmarking project engineering processes with CIP and ensure the company’s position as a leader in this area.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety.
  • Participates in the Plant Safety culture by leading through example, regular housekeeping inspections and regular workforce engagement.
  • Directly manages the activities of and provides direction and leadership to the Natrium Project Engineering Group including design services and construction for the execution of capital projects
  • Promotes consistency in Project Engineering Methods and Project Execution.
  • Ensures Project Engineering Group adherence to all applicable standards, regulations and requirements.
  • Takes primary ownership of Plant Capital budget strategy, budget development and modification, execution and status communication to achieve annual budget goals.
  • Supervise Westlake’s AFE process and capital management systems.
  • Coaches and develops employees to optimize both individual and group performance, including active coaching and performance feedback.
  • Active participant on Engineering CIP Management Team.
  • Prioritize, distribute assignments and reprioritize as necessary within their workgroup. 
  • Establish realistic and achievable goals for project execution and ensure project managers are held accountable for meeting targets and deadlines.
  • Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline; Mechanical or Chemical Engineering preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years industrial experience required, with expertise specifically in process and project design, management and implementation. 
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written
  •  Proven skills in project management execution within scope and timelines of project. Proficient computer skills, with good working knowledge of all standard company applications (i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Knowledge of chlor-alkali, VCM and PVC processes a plus

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Additionally, this position must make general decisions requiring judgement and perform activities requiring sustained concentration.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working in an office, however, some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.  Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
