SUMMARY

This position is responsible for providing the leadership necessary to improve site operations in the areas of safety, environmental, quality, cost and productivity through increased asset reliability with direct responsibility for reliability engineers and reliability technicians. Key areas of responsibility include management and mentoring of the site reliability engineers, reliability KPI development and monitoring, understanding of the maintenance work management system, technical support during unit turnarounds, assist in maintenance cost analysis and development of 5 year major maintenance and capital plans, stationary equipment inspection group, and manage the site’s mechanical integrity program.  This person will interface between operations, maintenance, craft maintenance groups and the project engineering group. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety.
  • Participates in the PACE culture of safety.
  • Support and drive accident prevention and environmental excellence. Enforce all plant safety rules and regulations and participate in regular safety meetings.
  • Drive reliability engineering work effort toward 80% cost reduction / process improvement and 20% technical support to the site.
  • Participate in departmental budget preparation; exercise cost control measures necessary to meet the budget requirements. Understand potential and actual impact to maintenance costs from reliability engineering efforts.
  • Support and drive development of detailed asset strategies for improved asset reliability.
  • Drive implementation of lubrication best practices.
  • Champion development and implementation of basic care rounds by mechanics and lubricators. and operators.
  • Drive continuous improvement through Root Cause Analysis and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Responsible for improvement process and development of preventative, predictive and condition based maintenance asset strategies.
  • Participate in identifying needs and developing craft skills training.
  • Participate in various improvement or benchmarking projects as required.
  • Support Maintenance Management with cost analysis & reliability improvement plans.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining five (5) year maintenance and capital improvement plans. 
  • Assist with onboarding, training, and mentoring of new maintenance & reliability personnel.
  • Responsible for the appraisals of performance program of all personnel within the reliability engineering group.
  • Responsible for keeping maintenance personnel abreast of advancing technology in diagnostic techniques, repair procedures and preventative measures to assure optimum performance at minimum cost.
  • Responsible for managing the Mechanical Integrity Program.
  • Responsible for developing maintenance procedures and processes site wide for Process Safety Management.
  • Developing training and career development plans for all reliability engineers.
  • Champion reliability training and awareness across the site for improved understanding and individual ownership.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required
  • Minimum of 10 years of chemical plant maintenance experience required.
  • Supervisory experience required with supervision of professionals preferred.
  • Good understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance technologies, asset strategies and reliable manufacturing.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite. 
  • This position also requires a high degree of organizational skills and the ability to perform cost tracking and data analysis.

  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Additionally, this position must make general decisions requiring judgement and perform activities requiring sustained concentration.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working inside, however, some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE and safety equipment including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs.  Travel may occasionally be required.
