Material Handler - Blend Room 2nd Shift
Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Material Handler is responsible for the safe operation of front-end loaders, excavators, conveying equipment, skid loaders, track mobiles, lift trucks, and any other equipment as assigned. In addition, the Material Handler is responsible for the daily checks, reporting and maintenance activities for the assigned equipment including rail car status reports.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Comply with company Safety Policies and Procedures
- Adheres to all safety and company standards while performing job functions
- Reports any safety concerns or violations to supervisor
- Performs pre-operation and post-operation inspection of the equipment and ensures windows, lights, mirrors, and equipment are clean
- Reports any necessary equipment repairs to supervisor. Safely and productively operates equipment complying with manufacturer and company approved techniques
- Achieves maximum productivity while operating equipment
- Completes daily lubrication and minor service on equipment
- Checks and maintains fluid levels in equipment, including fuel
- Moves equipment to and from central warehouse using assigned equipment
- Perform gypsum clean-up in compliance with State rules and customer policies and requirements
- Ensures that equipment is properly cleaned, serviced, and stored at the end of each shift
- Cleans tracks or wheels and moving components on equipment
- Collect and run lab samples
- Regular attendance, timeliness and scheduling flexibility
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
- Demonstrate ability to safely operate and maintain equipment
- Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to equipment operations
- Ability and willingness to work rotating on-call shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
The employee should have the following:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and training or certification in relevant skill or trade preferred
- 1 - 2 years' experience in a relevant field
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee should possess the ability to:
- Must be able to work standing for up to 8-12 hours/shift.
- Must be able to kneel, squat, bend/twist at the waist, and stack parts at or above head height
- Must have full range of motion (ROM) of shoulders, knees, hips, elbows, wrists, and hands to perform all basic functions of the job
- Must be able to wear compliant ear protection when working in areas exposed to noise levels above OSHA threshold limits
- Must be able to work in hot and cold environments that can range from 30F-100F in the warehouse depending on the season
- Must be able to complete repetitive movements
- Wear all required personal protective equipment (Safety toe shoes, ANSI Z87 eye protection, CR gloves, Hard Hats)
- Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to wear a safety harness that is compliant with OSHA standards when working at heights
- Must report to management if prescribed medication that could adversely affect the safe operation of Powered Industrial Vehicles such as forklifts, order pickers, Big Joe
- Ability to move or traverse about the facilities
- Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions
