Job Description

The Process Control Engineer will manage, provide support, and maintain Process Control and Safeguarding Systems (new and existing) for Westlake Epoxy production facilities in Deer Park, TX

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in Safety Studies (e.g. HAZOP)

  • Determine Safety Integrity Level (SIL) classification for safeguarding instrumentation (lead SIL classification session)

  • Ensure compliance with company standards

  • Provide and assure high and constant quality of work for the design, development, optimization and maintenance of process control and safeguarding systems.

  • Perform scouting studies, project scope definition with respect to process control systems. Provide assistance during preparation of basic design and engineering packages. Provide installation guidance on-site.

  • Provide smooth, timely and adequate interaction and information flow between Process Controls Engineering and other functions in the company (e.g. develop process control narratives)

  • Facilitation and participation in safety studies related to instrumented protective systems

  • Accountable for developing work processes and tools and identifying best practices with respect to. process control and safeguarding (e.g. develop quality standards, test-protocols, procedures and maintenance plans)

  • Develop specifications (scope) for new systems in the project design phase and give advice about maintenance contracts

  • Ensure compliance with company standards and national and international legislation

  • Participate in process control vendor selection activities

  • Provide guidance and control of the system vendor executing their scope of work (e.g. during programming activities, debugging, testing, installation, etc.)

  • Supervise and guidance for Maintenance of the Control and Safeguarding Systems and (as-built) Documentation

  • Participate in RCA (root cause analysis) of incidents or recurring problems in case of process control relevance

  • Assess system life cycle and define replacement strategy

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors Degree in Control Systems, Chemical, Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline

  • Minimum of 5 years of working experience in the petrochemical industry or related industry

  • Minimum of 5 years of process control experience in multiple new projects

  • Experience with systems from global suppliers like Emerson (preferred)

Flexible schedule: Option to work a 9/80 compressed work schedule, which allows an employee to work a nine-hour day Monday through Thursday and take every other Friday off.
