Senior Accountant
Job Description
This role administers and coordinates the accounting operation to ensure costs are monitored and prepares necessary reports for management to make informed financial decisions. This role readies and maintains financial and business transactions, applies accounting principles, and has a solid understanding of both accounting theory and practice.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- In collaboration with team, ensures that all monthly, quarterly, annual financial statements and related schedules/analysis are produced in a timely fashion with SOX, GAAP, and corporate policies.
- Involved in full cycle month end activities (including but not limited to general accounting records and GL maintenance) in compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Responsible for other financial reports and analytical work such as intercompany balance reconciliation, monthly accruals, journal entry logs, spreadsheet SOX control log.
- Prepare Balances Sheet reconciliation and Hard Close Binder timely & accurately.
- Preparation of financial statements and analysis, e.g. Management Estimates, EBITDA Bridge and ART timely & accurately
- Assist with preparation of AFE, including development of payback financial calculations. Review AFE's for compliance, financial integrity, and accuracy, as well as supervise the tracking of the AFE through the approval process.
- Prepares a variety of reports periodically or as requested.
- Considers the need for new or changed controls. Assists in implementing adequate internal controls throughout organization.
- Maintains proper documentation of all local procedures and internal controls to be followed during the monthly close process.
- Share best practices with other team members. Occasionally, serving as a back-up when individuals are on vacation or absent.
- Strives for continuous improvement of procedures and processes pertaining to the monthly accounting close.
- Responsible for preparation and submission of the monthly STAT’s Canada reports and manufacturing surveys.
- Perform additional ad-hock analysis and reporting, as requested. Other duties and analysis as assigned by Manager.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor Degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Minimum of 5 years of previous accounting experience in a manufacturing environment.
- A formal Accounting designation. (CPA)
- Self-motivated and result oriented.
- Strong Analytical skills which involves financial analysis, key trends analysis and business case analysis.
- A self-starter who is positive, energetic, innovative and not afraid to take initiative.
- Experienced with ERP systems, preferably JD Edwards
- Sound planning and organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments
- Strong understanding of costing, variance analysis, absorption and multi-currency.
- Demonstrated ability to work in an open group environment and deal with cross-functional management team.
