SUMMARY

This role will be responsible for assisting in the administration of Safety and Environmental programs at the Lenexa, KS Plant. Duties include assisting with documentation, training, reporting, audits in partnership with Plant Manager, and HSE. In addition, this position will assist Operations with any Safety related topic or issue

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assist in the onboarding of new hires both regular and temporary employees to include new hire safety orientation, review of work instructions, and help facilitate the onboarding process through the first 90 days of employment.
  • Make internal and external inspections of the entire facility including both buildings.
  • Assist in routine inspections to ensure environmental and safety compliance.  This will include fire systems, eye wash stations, ladders, area inspections, etc.
  • Assist with all Safety related plant postings and communications.
  • Assist with training coordination and delivery.
  • Attend meetings and seminars to assist in maintaining current safety policy compliance and in obtaining new ideas to implement more effective programs.
  • Audit contractors to ensure safety compliance and job performance in-line with the operational expectations.
  • Attend training to improve skills
  • Be proficient in all related IT platforms and functions
  • Assist with incident investigations involving injuries, incidents, and near misses.
  • Work directly with all levels within the organization to help drive safety compliance.
  • Maintain level of quality consistent with established standards.
  • Comply with established safety rules.
  • Comply with company policy and procedures.
  • Maintain constructive working relationships with co-workers, leads, supervisors, superintendents, and managers.
  • Maintain regular attendance in accordance with company policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to the satisfaction of your supervisor and/or the local plant manager

  • Education/Knowledge

A Safety oriented BS or MS degree highly desirable

  • Experience

At least 1 year of manufacturing experience. Full time Safety position experience highly desirable.

  • Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.  Ability to write simple correspondence and to effectively present information in one-on-one and small to large group situations to customers, clients, employees of the organization.  Good computer skills with knowledge in Microsoft Office is required.  Forklift experience is preferred.  We will train.

  • Communication

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  Good verbal communication is essential.  Ability to stand firm and independent concerning any Safety situation.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles.
