Specialist - Process Training
Job Description
SUMMARY
Administration and facilitation of learning content associated with new employee process operation within the Westlake - Lake Charles facilities. Communicates with subject matter experts, department staff, content designers, and training team members to develop instructional content for delivery and content maintenance within the LMS system. Understands instructional design methods and best practices for developing training products to include upgrades of existing materials, as well as the production of new training material and products.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Arranges annual scheduling and conducts reviews with HR and operational personnel regarding Basic Operator training course content, accuracy, upgrades and new training modules associated with the Basic Operator Training program.
- Arranges annual scheduling and conducts reviews with HR and operational personnel regarding Basic Operator training for Engineering/Supervisory personnel.
- Arranges annual content reviews with HSE personnel regarding initial employee safety training learning needs, skills assessments, and competency evaluations as required by OSHA for safe work practices/life critical rules.
- Facilitates/Coordinates delivery of Basic Operator Training and New Hire Safety training activities based on hiring demands.
- Validates knowledge verification and skill assessment criteria to ensure operational competencies are maintained meeting the learning objective criteria.
- Conducts proctoring exercises to support unit training needs as requested.
- Tracks and reports on training progress for operational positions. Reviews performance evaluations with unit trainers to ensure learning objectives are being met. Develops remediation training plans when needed.
- Conduct training process audits and quarterly reviews with superintendents. Adjusts as necessary.
- Provides reporting, as needed, for hourly training progress and milestones for monthly management review.
- Participate in meetings, teams and/or special projects as assigned and/or requested.
- Additional responsibilities as assigned by the department / direct manager.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of operational experience within the chemical industry.
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) in a professional environment.
- Experience in training delivery and/or train the trainer activities.
- Ability to work independently to resolve issues or problems on a day-to-day basis.
- Ability to build trust within a team atmosphere both inside and outside the department.
- Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.
- A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Duties will require production field presence where appropriate PPE will need to be worn.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
