Sr. I&E Technician - Electrician

SUMMARY

Provide the instrumentation and electrical knowledge and skills to perform the preventive and repair maintenance to the facility equipment in a safe, economical and environmentally sound manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety; Adhere to and carry out all company environmental rules, polices, standards & procedures.
  • Reports injuries, incidents and hazards to unit supervision as soon as reasonably possible.
  • Conducts tasks with appropriate PPE as assigned.
  • Responsible for personal safety and that of fellow employees.
  • Work overtime and respond to callouts during off hours in accordance with company needs.
  • Use time, company equipment and materials in the best interest of the company.
  • Responsible for accuracy, quality and quantity of work.
  • Required to know the administrative duties of the first line supervisor in order to be capable of assuming that position responsibility when assigned.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of the I/E equipment and the associated documentation within assigned area of responsibility and capable of utilizing the following standard reference material:
    • National Electrical Safety Code (ANSI)
    • National Fire Prevention Association Manuals (NFPA)
    • National Electrical Testing Association Publications (NETA)
    • American Electricians Handbook
    • Standard Handbook for Electrical Engineers
  • Must have the proven ability to interpret, maintain and initiate required revisions to documentation.
  • Must have a working knowledge of all the following standard instrument electrical test equipment.
    • 500 volt hand cranked megger; 5 KV & KV motor driven megger; Ground testing megger; D.C. high potential tester ; Digital & analog volt OHM meters; Clamp on ampmeter; Recording volt meters; Recording AMP meter; Recording watt meter; Ground fault test set; Micro OHM meter; Faulto meter set; High potential phasing sticks;  Capacitor test set (Q meter); Decade resistance box; Multi Amp relay test set; Westinghouse relay test set; High potential dielectric test set; Phase rotation meter
  • Must be knowledgeable of the Westlake Preventive Maintenance Program and be capable of accomplishing the required procedures.
  • Should be capable of formulating & acting upon a logical step by step troubleshooting procedure.
  • Knowledge of reactor trips, refrigeration trips, incinerators and boiler controls and trips.
  • Basic knowledge of pH meters, 02 analyzers and GC.
  • Knowledge of 480 volt motor starters and control circuits.  The electrician should possess an in depth knowledge of approximately 80% of the electrical equipment in assigned area.
  • The instrument mechanic should be capable of repairing 80% of the equipment in assigned area.
  • Knowledge of main gear operation and system configuration, feeders and tie breakers.
  • Knowledge of emergency generator system operations.
  • Basic understanding of the power distribution system.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;   Certificate from an approved Instrument/Electrical school is required

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the industrial instrument/electrical maintenance, or 8 yrs. experience in industrial instrument electrical maintenance and a certificate of completion from a vocational technical or military school, or an associate degree in electrical or electronic technology plus 6 yrs. of industrial electrical maintenance.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings; a high mechanical aptitude and the ability to comprehend and apply information in technical service manuals
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good computer skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, climb, kneel, squat/bend, push/pull; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working inside, however, some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE and safety equipment including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harness, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs.  Travel may occasionally be required.
