Sr. I&E Technician - High Voltage Electrician

SUMMARY

This position will be responsible for providing the electrical knowledge and skills to perform the preventive and repair maintenance to the facility equipment in a safe, economical and environmentally sound manner.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Demonstrates strong safety culture through personal behavior and commitment to environmental, health & safety; Adhere to and carry out all company environmental rules, polices, standards & procedures.
  • Reports injuries, incidents and hazards to unit supervision as soon as reasonably possible.
  • Conducts tasks with appropriate PPE as assigned.
  • Responsible for personal safety and that of fellow employees.
  • Provide attention to detail and dedication to work in order to ensure reliability of the work site as well as high quality product.
  • Use time, company equipment and materials in the best interest of the company.
  • Responsible for accuracy, quality and quantity of work.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge of electrical equipment and the associated documentation within assigned area of responsibility and capable of utilizing the following standard reference material:
  • ANSI, NFPA, NETA, American Electricians Handbook, and Standard Handbook for Electrical Engineers.
  • Working knowledge of all the standard electrical test equipment.
  • Should be capable of formulating and acting upon a logical step-by- step troubleshooting procedure.
  • Knowledge of the following:  overhead line design, construction and maintenance substation and switchyard equipment and hardware; emergency generator system operations.
  • Basic understanding of the power distribution system.  Must have the proven ability to read, interpret basic electrical drawings, maintain, and initiate required revisions to documentation.
  • Support the continuous operation of the plant by being available outside of regular scheduled work hours.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Certificate from an approved Electrical school.
  • 10+ years’ experience in high voltage electrical maintenance or 8+ years’ experience in high line electrical and a certificate of completion from a vocational technical or military school or an associate’s degree in electrical or electronic technology and 6+ years of electrical high line maintenance. 
  • Must be capable of troubleshooting electrical high line, switchyard and substation equipment, protective relay systems and capable of writing switching procedures.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical drawings; a high mechanical aptitude and the ability to comprehend and apply information in technical service manuals; excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good computer skills.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, climb, kneel, squat/bend, push/pull; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate when working inside, however, some of the work may be required in the operating units which mandates usage of required PPE and safety equipment including safety glasses, hearing protection, safety harness, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs.  Travel may occasionally be required.
