SUMMARY

This role is a supervisor of labs that has the potential to supervise personnel in the following groups: Chemists, Lab Techs, Instrument Techs, Inventory Planning Analyst, and Building Maintenance Personnel.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversee the generation of analytical data.
  • Provide technical support for analytical methods and instrumentation.
  • Supervise and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in performing instrument preventive maintenance and repairs in the Main Laboratory and Plant Operations Unit Laboratories.
  • Supervise and coordinate personnel engaged in managing laboratory chemical and equipment storeroom as well as building and grounds maintenance.
  • Maintain quality management system in area by meeting requirements of ISO 9001 standard.
  • Provides safety orientation and technical training to all direct reports.
  • Is a self-starter and makes valuable contributions to the department and takes the initiative to recommend and implement improvement opportunities.
  • Recommends measures to improve instrumental methods, performance, and quality of product or service, and suggests changes in working conditions to increase efficiency.
  • Coordinates building repairs and maintenance within budgeted maintenance forecasts.
  • Utilizes SAP to write maintenance notifications and work orders to ensure repairs are completed efficiently.
  • Recommends laboratory AFE instrument and equipment replacements to improve reliability.
  • Manage successful introduction of new instrumental tests to laboratory, and maintain existing procedures, following guidelines for SOPs.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry strongly preferred. Related technical science field degree (Biology, statistics, environmental, etc.) or Associate’s degree in relevant field of study will be considered.
  • Five years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office.  Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.  Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
