SUMMARY

The Transportation Analyst supports the Transportation department responsible for contracting over the road service on behalf of Canadian and US Westlake Housing and Infrastructure Product (HIP) Businesses. The primary function of this role is to support the department with its administrative functions such as Freight Audit and shipment vouchering using a Transportation Management System (TMS) in conjunction with JDE and manual spreadsheets. This role also supports the Transportation Supervisor, and will work regularly with HIP Businesses’ Service Group and the IS department, as well as with transport carriers to ensure that payments are processed in a timely manner and anomalies are addressed.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Manage transportation freight expenses to minimize the administrative processes related to audit and approval of carrier invoices.

  • Emphasis is placed on using TMS to audit and voucher freight invoices.

  • Develop efficient processes for managing manual freight invoices producing the lowest possible administrative effort while achieving the necessary audit requirements.

  • Provide ongoing support in migration of new carriers to automated freight payment using TMS.

  • Assist the Transportation Supervisor with functions directly related to TMS maintenance such as adding carriers to the network, rate entry, freight payment, and other related duties.

  • Assist Planners; including arrange transportation service with carriers, tendering shipments in TMS, assist with vouchering of shipments for Royal Building Products facilities, working with the Customer Service, Shipping, IS and Business Services Group.

  • Updates and maintains standard operating procedures and recording keeping requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Logistics experience an asset

  • Proficient with complete Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) and PC skills

  • TMS experience an asset

  • ERP experience an asset

  • CITT or equivalent professional designation in transportation an asset

  • Bilingualism an asset (English / French)

  • Detail oriented with a high degree of accuracy and ability to detect inconsistencies in data;

  • Customer service oriented;

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate (written and verbal) with stakeholders (both internal and external).

  • A demonstrated ability to self-start, prioritize and multi-task in a flexible, fast paced environment;

  • Consistently demonstrates proven ability to learn and apply knowledge.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office.  Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.  Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
