Maintenance Engineer II (South)
SUMMARY
Provide engineering support for maintenance and reliability of plant equipment within assigned units. This includes troubleshooting, repair planning, preventive and predictive maintenance, and reliability improvement for mechanical systems, while ensuring compliance with safety, environmental, quality, and mechanical integrity requirements
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
May include, but are not limited to, the following:
Define preventive maintenance (PM) work order scope, classification, and frequency for mechanical equipment selected for periodic or systematic maintenance.
Lead or support troubleshooting for high vibration, abnormal noise, high temperature, seal/packing failures, lubrication issues, and repeated breakdowns on rotating machinery.
Perform or coordinate root cause failure analysis on significant rotating failures and drive corrective actions (design changes, procedure updates, operating practice changes).
Develop and update Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMPs) or PM plans, using manufacturer recommendations and field experience.
Monitor PM compliance and documentation; work with Maintenance Supervisors and equipment owners to address inspection results and improve PM programs.
Provide day‑to‑day technical support to operations and maintenance for rotating and fixed equipment issues; lead or assist in troubleshooting chronic or complex problems.
Perform or coordinate failure analysis and corrective actions; monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to enhance reliability and life cycle cost.
Serve as a technical resource for mechanics, technicians, and supervisors; provide informal and formal training as needed
Use SAP (or equivalent CMMS) to manage work orders, notifications, PM tasks, and equipment histories.
Maintain and update EDMS‑based procedures, SMPs, and related engineering documents assigned to Maintenance Engineering
Perform equipment failure analysis (i.e. RCA &/or 5-Why) to prevent reoccurrence.
Evaluate and audit external rotating repair/machine shop service resources and capabilities.
Provide technical support on turnarounds and outages, both planned and unplanned.
Provide technical support, review, and input on projects for infrastructure recapitalization and reliability improvements.
Stay abreast and facilitate the incorporation of new reliability technology and industry best practices to drive reliability improvements.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
BS in mechanical engineering or equivalent technical degree from an accredited university required.
Minimum of 5 years of chemical plant experience preferred.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, strong work planning and organizational skills required.
Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.
A current, valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card is required.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
