Maintenance Mechanic I (Industrial Equipment)

JOB SUMMARY

The Maintenance Mechanic I is responsible for performing routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of industrial equipment and facility systems to ensure safe and efficient operations. This role requires a strong mechanical background, basic electrical knowledge, and the ability to accurately measure, adjust, and maintain equipment performance.

Union environment starting rate of pay $30.82

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on industrial machinery and facility systems
  • Assist with basic electrical tasks (wiring, replacing switches, sensors, and motors) under supervision if needed.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures to minimize downtime
  • Perform accurate measurements and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal equipment performance
  • Maintain and repair conveyors, motors, pumps, and other production equipment
  • Follow all safety procedures and ensure compliance with company standards
  • Document maintenance work using basic computer systems
  • Asist other mechanics and electricians
  • Support production lines when needed

•    Participate in Team activities for Safety, Problem Solving, 5S, Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing continuous projects.

•    Comply  with Westlake Safety Policies and Procedures

•    All other duties as requested or assigned

•    Regular attendance, timeliness,  and scheduling flexibility

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Basic electrical knowledge (motors, controls, troubleshooting)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and hands-on repair experience
  • Able to operate roofing tile Racker (preferred)
  • Ability to use measuring tools and perform precise adjustments
  • Welding skills (basic fabrication and repair preferred)
  • Good verbal communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Must be able to read blueprints and electrical schematics
  • Bilingual (preferred)
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, and general data entry)
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities
  • Commitment to safety and continuous improvement
  •    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, equipment manuals, and procedures.
  •     Demonstrate manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:

•    High School Diploma  or equivalent  and training or certification in relevant skill or trade

•    1 - 2 years' experiencin a relevant field

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee should possess the ability to:

•    Be exposed to sounds or noise levels  that maybe uncomfortable

•    Withstand exposurto temperature extremes inside or out

•    Prolong  standing or in stationary position

•    Complete repetitive movements

•    Bend and/or twist

•    Climb stairs/ladders  when necessary

•    Lift/move/transport  items up to 50 pounds

•    Ability to work above or below floor level and in confined spaces

•    Ability to move or traverse about the facilities

•     Ability to work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental  conditions

•     Wear all required  personal protective equipment  (hearing,  vision, and hard hat protection)
