SUMMARY

Assist in the operations of the unit using sound and safe environmental procedures.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Responsible for operating various pieces of chemical processing equipment to produce vinyl chloride monomer, including but not limited to pumps, heat exchangers, reactors, furnaces, and distillation columns.
  • Perform all job duties, both routine and non-routine, in a manner that protects personal safety as well as the safety of others. Promptly report Safety, Health, or Environmental issues or incidents to management.
  • Fully supports company goals of continuous improvement and operational excellence at strategic and tactical levels.
  • Prepare equipment for mechanical repairs according to safe work practices to insure cost effective repairs and prevent exposure of mechanics to hazards.
  • Know guidelines for environmental compliance for assigned area so that immediate action is taken to avoid, or minimize all spills or emissions and meet regulatory requirements.
  • Report process leaks and spills to initiate prompt repair, satisfy environmental reporting guidelines and initiate appropriate emergency response.
  • Know the location and activities of all personnel in assigned area so that their safety can be assured at all times.
  • Perform housekeeping duties as part of routine work to insure a clean and safe working place.
  • Know the location, condition and proper use of safety equipment in assigned area; report abnormalities for repair to insure prompt prevention of hazards.
  • Perform duties in a manner that protects personal safety as well as the safety of others.  Promptly report Safety, Health or Environmental issues or incidents to management.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma
  • Must be able to communicate effectively
  • Must have good mechanical skills
  • Prior chemical plant operations experience helpful.
  • Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Process Technology preferred.
  • Successful candidates must satisfy background screening, including motor vehicle record screening, drug testing & pre-employment physical requirements before starting work.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.  The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate as normally based in an office.  Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc.  May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators.  Travel including air travel or auto travel may occasionally be required.
