Specialist-Quality Control

Job Objective

Lead Quality and Laboratory activities at the Onsan site to ensure product quality, reliable laboratory analysis, and compliance with HSE and quality regulations in alignment with Westlake standards.

Responsibility

General

  • Overall leader of the Quality function (including Laboratory) at the Onsan site.
  • Maintain and renew the Quality Management System (ISO 9001).
  • Develop and implement policies and procedures related to analytical and quality activities.
  • Lead management reviews and manage the Continuous Improvement (CI) portfolio for the site.

HSE / Q

  • Ensure compliance with local HSE/Q regulations and Westlake guidelines applicable to laboratory and analysis activities.
  • Implement HSE/Q improvement initiatives and report HSE issues to the Plant Manager.
  • Conduct internal and local HSE/Q audits and ensure corrective actions.

Lab Management

  • Manage laboratory analysis processes and ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
  • Develop best practices for analytical methods and manage laboratory workload.
  • Provide initial and continuous operator training, including MSDS and legal HSE training.
  • Maintain documentation for ISO 9001 and customer audits.
  • Manage laboratory consumables, services, and related PO/PR activities via SAP.

Quality Assurance / Control

  • Establish quality targets and KPIs and report performance to the Plant Manager.
  • Ensure reliability of quality data (COA, SPC) to support production and customer needs.
  • Resolve site quality issues and manage customer complaints through the SAP QN process.
  • Respond to customer audits, surveys, and inquiries and collaborate with global quality teams.

Instruments Management

  • Maintain and troubleshoot analytical instruments to ensure stable operation.
  • Ensure regular calibration of equipment with internal and external service providers.
  • Manage analyst certification and Gauge R&R for data and equipment reliability.

Analysis Technician Management

  • Manage laboratory technicians and contractors for maintenance and small projects.
  • Review and align new test methods for new analysis requests.

Accountabilities

  • Ensure compliance with local laws and company standards for HSE, Quality, and laboratory operations.
  • Ensure integrity and reliability of quality data and QM master data in SAP.
  • Drive quality improvement projects and operational best practices.
  • Maintain standards for analytical methods, equipment, and operator performance.

Requirement

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or above in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a quality-related discipline.

Skills / Qualifications

  • +/- 10 years of relevant QA/QC and chemical lab experience, preferably in an international environment in chemical industry.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 systems and analytical instruments (GC, HPLC, XRF, titrator, etc.).
  • Knowledge of regulations (RoHS, SVHC, REACH, etc.).
  • Experience with SAP (Quality Module) preferred.
  • Native-level Korean and good English communication skills.
