Supervisor-Production, Building Products - 2nd Shift (Mon-Fri 4p-12a)

JOB SUMMARY

The Production Supervisor assists in the management of the molding department to meet production requirements by supervising operations and maintaining strong employee relations for a cohesive team environment.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Champion and foster safety culture within department, leading communications, initiatives and upholding standards for a safe work environment.
  • Understand and follow Safety Escalation process for the plant, performing as the primary contact when plant leadership is off site.
  • Ensure department and equipment are ready and available to meet production schedules based upon production scheduling demands.
  • Review production schedules and plan labor resources necessary to complete schedule.
  • Act as primary contact for all employee conflicts, administering and mediating where necessary.
  • Monitor and address production exceptions related to machine down time and scrap anomalies.
  • Establish and maintain standards for training and progression of employees within the operations of the department. Ensure that all production personnel are trained by supervising appropriate training programs.
  • Engage the broader Operations team with initiatives and align standards across departments when appropriate.
  • Responsible for implementing and coordinating in conjunction with Continuous Improvement all 5S and CI standards.
  • Communicate effectively with employees to align production priorities with employee requests.
  • Conduct scheduled shift meetings to communicate Operations priorities and immediate needs of the shift.
  • Provide guidance on quality issues, escalating according to procedure when required.
  • Perform all supervisor tasks related to payroll and employee engagement through designated applications (ie. Training Exchange, Workday)
  • Assist in conducting the formal and informal performance appraisals and hiring new employees
  • All other duties as requested or assigned by Operations Superintendent

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, equipment manuals, and company manuals and procedures
  • Honest, dedicated, and enthusiastic team player with solid work ethic
  • Versed in training and development of exempt and non-exempt employees
  • Strong communication skills and ability to connect with team members.
  • Ability to observe, identify, deduce and troubleshoot equipment malfunctions
  • Quick learner and ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Participated in one or more of the following process improvements: Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Cost of Quality, Demand Flow Technology, JIT, TQM, ISO 9000-2000, Kaizen, 5S
  • Ability to interact with people from a variety of backgrounds, levels and positions
  • Math skills and computer skills
  • Communicate effectively and tactfully to different levels in the organization in person and on the telephone
  • Able to handle confidential information
  • Computer literate in Excel, Word and Power Point; SAP
  • Ability to attention to details

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

The employee should have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • 3 - 5 years' experience in functional role

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee should possess the ability to:

  • Work in an environment where exposure to sounds or noise levels may be uncomfortable
  • Withstand exposure to temperature extremes inside or out
  • Prolong standing or other stationary positions
  • Complete repetitive movements
  • Bend and/or twist
  • Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds
  • Move or traverse about the facilities
  • Work around dust, chemicals, and other substances, and in various environmental conditions
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment (hearing, vision and hardhat protection)
